Well done to Paul Brennan
Well
done to Paul Brennan,-
co-captain of our under 12's Div 1 team. Paul along with Ben Maxfield, Joe Perovic and Tom Caelli played a number of matches last Tuesday at Southport AFC Paul played at Full Back and was picked in the powerful South Coast team, Despite Paul being one of our tallest players he finds himself very short in amongst this lot. South Coast have won 13 of the past 15 state championships, lets hope for Pauls sake this trend continues and maybe Paul might find himself off to Melbourne for the national championships.
A good week for two of our senior boys, Charles Wellington and Shaun Perovic have made the Final cut of the Southeast Bushrangers under 16 team. Needless to say Shaun and Charlie are captain and Vice captain of the Cobras under 16's , and have been great mates since playing together 6 years ago. As we know the "Bushies are the benchmark of rep football in Brisbane and continually play -off in the Carnival Final. Charlie and Shaun have persistantly been around the fringe of selection and at last , get to go "on "tour" Best of luck boys.
Auskick ended on a positive note on Friday night with 38 of the 55 children still participating in week 8. They were given a send off with a barbeque and were presented with their certificates as well. It was good to recieve many thanks from parents on the evening, some children having asked to join our club since. We thank Paul Milner, Ken Bentley and Stan Perovic for their help over the past two months
Presidents Newsletter
Junior
President Mark Fischer
Season 2002 is off and running now. Our youth footy teams had
their first official game, apart from 14 div 4 and 16s who are two weeks
into their round. Under 12s div 1 had a loss, Under 12 div 4 had a bye,
Under 14 div 2 had a win, 14 div 4 a loss and 16s a loss this past weekend,
however first round for 14 div 4 and 16s both had a win. We are still
in need of players for our Under 12s div 4 and Under 14s div 4 if
you know of any one interested in playing please have them contact myself ASAP,
it is never to late to join up.
First Aid Officer
Due to university commitments our first aid officer has left us, however we
were fortunate in receiving a grant for $1350.00 for first aid courses and ten
of our members have just finished the course. Therefore the club will be utilizing
their vast!! Skills learnt at this course to furnish our needs for first aid
officer this year. Congratulations to Romona Bladen (under 8s) Dale Anderson
(under 9s), Paul Milner (under 10s), Marion Brooks (under 11s),
Coral Nolan (under 12s div 4), Donna Fischer (under 12s div 1),
Chamaine Woolley (under 14s div 4), Stuart (under 14s div 2), Jenine
Thomas (under 16s) and our floater Luke Fischer.
Canteen Helpers
Thankyou to those parents who have offered their assistance to help out in the
canteen Annie, Stephanie, Yvonne, Janice, Debbie, Wendy, Caroline, John,
Charmaine, Tammy, Jenine, Lyn,
Ground Marshall
We have been very fortunate in acquiring a highly skilled ground marshall, John.
John has had extensive involvement with AFL, and has in the past been an umpire
down at the club. We would like to welcome John and his family down to the club
and hope your stay is a long and memorable one.
A reminder for all teamsIf you have a home game it is the teams responsibility
to ensure they organize time keepers, goal umpires, boundary umpires (Youth
footy only) not the ground marshal or the committee.
Meat Trays / Fundraising
Those meat traysdue to the committee already overstretched our fund raising
is taking a bit of a back seat at the moment therefore I ask that if you can
help sell these on game days another job can be taken off the committee a reminder
that it is all of the children that benefit from these much needed funds.
Injured List
Get well soon to:
Shane MillerdUnder 16s broken nose in first round of fixtures.
Shai ClementsUnder 16s who was seriously injured in the first round
of fixtures. Snapped collarbone.
Brendan Langfieldwho went out in sympathy with Shai and broke his wrist
up in Toowoomba on the weekend.
Rhys HucksKnock out in the first round for the 16s
Training Shirts
As stated earlier, all fully paid registered player will receive a Cobras training
singlet, they are coming the hold up is with the screen printer so hopefully
within a week all eligible players should be sporting these on the field very
shortly. These were made possible through the help of Caroline Marsay and her
mum who have been selling meat trays down at the Local Hotel Waterford for the
past twelve months once again thank you both very much.
This year sees the club with two Under12s and 14s teams and one Under 16s. There has been some rumblings from parents and players through out the club regarding the grading process for age groups that have two teams. When staggered age groups came in the club made a policy stating that Logan Cobras would grade their players and therefore field their strongest team in the higher division. This does not go on age but each player would be looked at and put in the appropriate team that best suits their abilities. Whilst this may not keep everyone happy at the end of the day we are out there to play to the best of our teams potential. What every player and parent must be reminded of that each and every team is very important to the club and each coach is a fully accredited level 1
Coach therefore you are getting the best coaching assistant available.
Help on game daysfor all home games each team requires to supply the following
1. Time Keeper
2. Boundary Umpire
3. Goal Umpire
4. Water Carriers (must be 14 years of age and shoes must be worn)
For all away games the following are required
1. Boundary Umpire
2. Goal Umpire
3. Water Carriers (must be 14 years of age and shoes must be worn)
If you can assist at all with these jobs please approach your team manager.
Parent Free Zone.
The league has bought into place a parent free zone around coaching boxes of 10 metres. We ask for your assistance in this new ruling. This goes for all home and away games. Just a reminder also to all parents and spectators the only people allowed in the coaches box are: Coach, Manager, Trainer (only qualified AFL BJ registered trainers), Runner, Water Carriers and players. Parents are not permitted at any time.
Game Changes
A reminder to all players and parents to check for game changes as stated in earlier newsletter these do occur, which has nothing to do with the committee but come from the league due to teams pulling out, fields having other commitments etc. There is changes for this weekend so your best bet is to check the huge white board in the club rooms, changes can occur up till Thursday night. It is your responsibility not the clubs, coaches, or managers responsibility. If you are away sick training nights it is your responsibility to check with the coach by Thursday night of any changes.
Representative Players
Congratulations go to Charles Wellington and Shaun Perovic both chosen in the Under 16s Bushrangers team. Also to Channon Harper and Rabbit (Under 16s Collingwood Park player on blanket permit to us this year) for making Under 16s Toowoomba Rep side. We wish you all the best of luck. If I have missed any one please come and tell me.
Well to all teams, good luck in season 2002, may you have a prosperous and injury free year.
