Drabble: The Green Trousers

Written for the Friday Drabble Challenge on Lifein1973 Friday 9 April 2010.  However, as it was too late for St Patrick's Day it was not posted.  The challenge was "mistake".  Posted to Lifein1973 Thursday 17 March 2011.

"Guv, about Peter Kennedy..."

"What about him?"

"We might've made a mistake."

"Who says?"

"I do."

"You would, Dorothy.  What's up?"

"Mrs Morris said the intruder was wearing green trousers but Kennedy was wearing red ones."

"So?  He could've changed 'em along the way, or he's wearin' 'em under the red ones."

"Nope... but it is St Patrick's Day!  Back in a minute."

"Phyllis said he temporarily escaped custody and ran up to the roof."

"So?"

"So he's Irish - and no one noticed he'd run the green trousers up the flagpole."

"Gladys, you'll make a detective yet.  Guinness on me!"
