Drabble: Insomnia

Sam Tyler lay awake contemplating how life was some kind of cosmic joke. His lack of commitment was part of what had gone wrong with his relationship with Maya, though at least he'd never cheated on her. Now, he'd committed himself to the one person who made him feel alive - Gene, who lay sleeping peacefully beside him. Gene, who seemed to trust him from day one and who gave of himself more and more.

As moonlight illuminated the soft curve of his lover's neck, Sam stroked it lightly before covering them both up against the room's chill and drifting off.
