It glinted gold at his DI's throat, chain thick and heavy - a man's chain - and Gene Hunt always noticed it.  Had a medallion of his own too but never wore it.  Now he wondered if maybe he should.  Wondered if Tyler would notice it.

His memory supplied a younger, fitter man, but he'd sucked in his gut, donned new swimming trunks and worn his medallion the day they'd arrested Kim Trent.  He'd been inordinately pleased too because Tyler had noticed it - along with his tackle.

Gene Hunt had worn his medallion from that day forth, knowing the younger man approved.
