Drabble: A Christmas to Remember

Christmas is supposed to be for family, Sam Tyler reflected, except in this time, he had none.  To his family, he was only four years old, a boy, not some grownup stranger with a coincidence of names.  No, Christmas now would always be lonely.

He was wrong.

On Christmas Eve his door burst open to reveal his DCI, in all his gloved, camel-coated glory, who'd clapped him on the back and taken him carolling.

Later, they'd gone home for a hot dinner.  Later still, things happened that neither one had foreseen.

For Sam Tyler, that night, Gene Hunt became family.
