Drabble: A Christmas Tradition

Written for the Life on Mars Christmas-tide Unofficial Drabble Challenge on Lifein1973 Friday 25 December 2009.  Prompt: Christmas Day.

Their first Christmas together Gene had given Sam a new football and very early in the morning they'd taken it out to the local park.  It was barely light, the fog of their panting breaths shining in the smoke-filled, frosty air as they'd kicked it around.  Sam had been surprised at how athletic Gene was on his long legs.

Afterwards they'd gone home and Gene had cooked them both a hot breakfast.

Later, they'd opened the rest of the presents.  Sam had kissed Gene in gratitude and they'd wound up back in bed celebrating in what became another Christmas tradition.
