IMPORTANT!!!
This tutorial is for version 16.0 of the Alive mod ONLY! [Setting up
versions 10.0 to 15.0 are almost identical, except there are fewer files.] Installing the Alive mod is not a complicated task. Follow this step by step guide and you won't go wrong. To beging with... there are two (2) methods of installation. 1 . NOT using the MafiaDataXtractor This method is the easiest and quickest. It's best suited for people who are not familiar with the MafiaDataXtractor or simply don't wish to use it. 2 . Using the MafiaDataXtractor This method is the most complex but the best if you modify the game often. Note: Using the MafiaDataXtractor is the most common method of installing the Alive mod. |

| That's
it. You're done. Either start up one of MikeMouse's savegames (recommended)
or start a new game of your own. Note: If you wish to clean up the directories (remove unnecessary files from MikeMouse's Alive mod folders) then refer to the image below. It is safe to delete the files that are shaded in red blocks. They are not part of the Alive mod, instead they are signature files and some extras that are part of the download to guarantee its integrity (in other words to ensure you're getting an original MikeMouse pack) If your download didn't contain the signature files then it has either been corrupted or altered by someone. Lastly, leaving the "unecessary files" in the folders will NOT affect the game at all, the game will simply ignore them. |

| STEP 1 - USING THE MAFIADATAXTRACTOR TO EXTRACT THE .DTA FILES... |
The
most common method of installing a mod involves using the MafiaDataXtractor
to extract the content of the .dta files (data files) so that they can
be replaced with new information. .dta files store the games information: missions, images, animations, sounds etc. Note: You can download the MafiaDataXtractor free of charge from all good mafia fan sites. However you need to make sure that you download the version of the extractor that matches your version of Mafia. E.g. MafiaDataXTractor 1.0 for Mafia version 1.0 MafiaDataXTractor 1.1 for Mafia version 1.1 (1st mafia patch installed) MafiaDataXTractor 1.2 for Mafia version 1.2 (2nd mafia patch installed) There is a "readme.txt" file that accompanies the MafiaDataXTractor download. Read it to learn how to use it. This tutorial is not designed to teach you how to use the extractor! Once you have extracted the necessary Mafia folders: maps, MISSIONS, models, sounds you are ready to install the mod. |
| STEP 2 - EXTRACT THE ALIVE MOD FILES |
Extract
the Alive mod files into a temporary folder as shown on the image above,
BUT instead of performing the final action (copying the folders
into your Mafia directory) ONLY copy the files shown in the image below
into their corresponding folders. There is no need to copy rw_data.dll
either because you will already have created it when you used the MafiaDataXtractor
on the .dta files. |

all the files from Mike's "sounds" and "music" folders
into your "sounds" and "music" folders. |
Note: MikeMouse won’t guarantee the smooth performance of the Alive mod if you have other mods installed. E.g. if you install the mod but try to play it with over-polygonal car models you may possibly experience lag. This is not because of the mod but because of the large file size of the poorly created cars. |

| If
you are updating the Alive mod to a more recent version then it is more
than likely that your save games will work correctly. However if you
are installing the Alive mod for the first time your "clean" save game
may not function properly, if this is the case it is recommended that
you begin a new Freeride game. |
| IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!! |
The
'secondary' key CANNOT be assigned to 'use' the super weapons
(place them onto the ground), in order for you to be able to
'use' the super weapons you will need to use the 'primary' key. |
| Extra Information |
| And finally... if you choose to use Mike's savegame the Mutagen 4WD (Flying car) will not fly until you have driven to the countryside and back again with them so that their powers are reset... the same way you must reset the superweapons. |
