| "What
are you doing Jack?" asked AnaMaria
quietly, she
was dead tired and had to force herself to eat the meal they had just
eaten,
they had been working solid and still had the third floor to clear
tomorrow.
"Most of the treasure cave is empty,
and the
emptied water
barrels are in place ready for the storm, I don't know about you lot
but
I intend to have a nice long hot bath before we have to fill up the
tubs
and turn off the water system." Said Jack with a yawn as he started the
process of unbraiding his hair. I'm also going to wash the bloody
bedding and dry it with a charm like I did on the Pearl before I sleep
in Barbossa's room tonight that sickly sweet jasmine sent he favoured
just
makes his stink worse." He said with a grimace. "It took six
Scourgify
to make the mattress bearable on the Pearl."
The crew looked at each other
remembering how
they had
to clean and scrub the Black Pearl to make it livable if the living
quarters
here were as bad.
"Sounds like a fine idea, would you
mind
drying our bedding
after the crew do their own wash while you are at it Capt'n." asked
Gibbs
politely.
"Of course, happy to be of service."
Muttered
Jack, pointing
his wand at a stubborn dreadlocks and undoing it with a muttered charm.
"If we are washing the bedding and
ourselves
we may as
well go whole hog and do our clothes while we are at it, I hate putting
dirty clothes back on when I get clean." Said AnaMaria with a grimace.
"To do that we have to find
something to wear
meanwhile,
I don't think any off us want to be standing around naked while Jack
dries
our clothes. The thought of wearing anything belonging to
Barbossa's
crew isn't something I want to contemplate either." added Gibbs with a
sigh most of the crew confirmed that he wasn't alone in that sediment.
"What about that pile of clothes
Jack tied up
in the caves,
a lot of it was feminine apparel but some of it was for men from the
look
of it before we packed it?" said AnaMaria softly.
"It will still need washing but at
least it
won't stink
of unwashed rotting pirate like most of the stuff we found and dumped
over
the side on the Black Pearl." Said Gibbs "Go fetch the bungles, you
four
go strip the beds in the first twelve rooms we don't need to do them
all
just enough for us at the moment. Marty I saw a case of French soap up
on the next level go fetch some for us, better yet fetch some buckets
and
fill them up. Also search the cases stored around it, if there is
soap up there might be other fancy bathing stuff and or some fragrant
oils
from the same ship as they are usually shipped together."
"Probably where Barbossa got the
bloody
jasmine scent
from." Said Jack.
"That was what I was thinking it's
too
overpowering to
be soap which he didn't look like he used anyway." Gibbs Confirmed, as
quartermaster it was his job to find and keep track of the supplies so
he had been taking note of where everything was as they discovered
things
the pirates had been niffling away for the last decade. "I think
we need to find you a bush or at least a comb if you are going to wash
that tangled mess you call hair." He said thoughtfully "I think you
called
some when you got sick of individually calling all the different head
decorations,
and snapped "Accio all the bloody head and hair gear whatever
their
names are" and you got everything from hats to hair ties and
tiaras.
Which rider room did we put the head and hair stuff." He called.
"Ninth one down on the ground level,
Why?"
said AnaMaria.
"I saw some brush and combs being
called in
that lot,
Jack isn't going to be able to get his hair untangled without at least
a comb, and as we all lost everything on the Interceptor, we could all
do with some grooming equipment." He said running a hand over his own
tangled
hair and beard.
'I'll go get them if you put the big
pot we
used to boil
the washing up water back on." She said. "We dump them into the
boiling
water to kill any thing living in the crevices and Bristols. Then
Jack can do a Scourgify to clean them up I'll take Cotton so we can get
the trunks as well, we stopped using them for treasure so we can use
them
to keep our new gear in. I intend to scrub out the entire room,
draws
and cupboards of the room I picked before I chance storing anything in
them."
"That's actually a damned good idea
we'll make
like they
were our stuff from the Interceptor, he's not to know we didn't save
anything."
"Don't try for treasure in them just
personal
stuff a
purse is alright but only a few gold coins no more than a handful of
silver
and some copper make out it is your life savings. No guarantee
you'll
get to keep it but they might believe such a story as it isn't gold
which
a pirate would go for if they were stealing treasure." Said Jack
thoughtfully.
"Next time we go out to the Pearl remind me to take enough coin to fill
the strongbox in the wizard safe plus enough dirt to make it look like
it hasn't been disturbed for ten years, I'll doctor the ledger in with
it and age the ink."
"Good idea, make out that the strong
box has
been hidden
from the mutinous crew all this time, that way it will let us buy stuff
in Port Royal without suspicion as the ten year old ledger will say it
was yours not pirate plunder. We best not all have the same exact
amount of coin in our purse as well. AnaMaria might get away with
a little more gold than us lowly crew as she will have the fancy
dresses
and can claim to be Lady Jennifer's travelling companion having sank
her
boat the Jolly Man at Port Royal you are responsible for getting her to
Lady Jennifer's plantation orphanage."
"Sounds reasonable as Lady
Jennifer's flighty
and thoroughly
mad twin brother she would be my responsibility to get her there safely
especially as I commandeered her boat for my mission and got it
sunk.
Tell AnaMaria she is to claim to be Lady Jennifer's god-daughter if
they
press for details."
"Twin brother?"
"The best lies are always very close
to
reality if slightly
twisted sideways to fit. I am Lady Jennifer therefore I can
honestly
and truthfully say if asked that we shared my mothers womb and were
born
the same day. To buy the plantation I had to use my real name
therefore
my sister became Lady Jennifer Ravenclaw long suffering twin to mad and
eccentric Lord Jacklon Ravenclaw. Also known as the infamous
Pirate
Captain Jack Sparrow which is a very effective cover for the agent
known
simply as Raven by the British Admiralty."
"Jack that's four bloody identities,
you're
way beyond
eccentric. Have you worked out why you're claiming this island
you
when you have a plantation already?"
"Oh! That's easy," said Jack
brightly
"Jennifer
might be my twin and only living relative but I simply can't live with
her, she's just as likely to burn my rum as Elizabeth if the mood takes
her, she's mad you know obsessed with her children. No way am I
living
with her and a house full of brats, hence my new home close enough to
get
her off my back about keeping in touch and to run her bloody errands
but
not close enough for my twin to try and run my life." Smirked Jack.
"That's so twisted it's actually
believable."
Said Gibbs
in wonder.
"Elizabeth burning the rum was the
true
inspiration, plus
it is believable as I always was very respectable as Jennifer, I had to
be if I was going to get the kids."
"Marty what did you find?" Gibbs
called
spotting the half
Dwarf lugging two full buckets.
"Lavender and rose soap I left the
Jasmine as
Jack doesn't
like it. Also some lavender and rose oil concentrate." He said
putting
down the over full buckets.
Jack examined the plunder with a
grin it
wasn't much but
it was better than plain water. The buckets actually gave him an
idea that would work well with the washing spell he intended to use.
"How are we going with the boiling
water?'
"It's boiling why?"
"If I use the 'Aqua contorqueo'
washing spell
we need
the soap to be liquidised or it won't mix, so we need to shave or
pulverise
a cake of soap into a bucket and dissolve it in the boiling water." He
said emptying the buckets and putting a cake of soap in the bottom of
each
deciding for one of each essence. A quick spell ground them to
dust.
"Only half fill the buckets, Jack."
Gibbs
quickly warned
"Now use 'Aqua
contorqueo' to help it dissolve then top it up and stir
in a drop of the appropriate oil concentrate. I say we use the
liquidised
soap on our hair as well it will work in better."
The men they sent for the bedding
came out of
the bathrooms
they had chosen.
"We filled six tub with hot water
and put two
rooms worth
in each tub good thing those tubs are so big." Said one of them.
"Here poor a cup of the soap from
the bucket
into the
tubs and I'll come do the 'Aqua contorqueo'
when you're ready." Said
Jack
giving the liquidised soap to two of the men. "You two get another
three
tubs ready and then get four more blankets." Ordered Jack tying his
unbraided
hair back out of the way with his scarf. Then he got up to start
the water in the first six tubs agitating.
He was waiting for the blankets and
soap in
the seventh
bathroom when Gibbs carried in the bucket of soap. "Why the extra
blankets?"
"So we can cut them up for towels,
should get
three to
a blanket so four of them should get us one each. Here tip the
soap
in and I'll start the agitation that way we don't have to wait." Said
Jack
"We still have clothes to sort out. 'Aqua contorqueo'"
he started the
spell
going just as the crew man came in carrying an arm load of
blankets.
"Just put them in it's already started." He said on the way out Gibbs
following
with the still two-thirds full bucket of soap.
"I think we might be short on
finding
something for all
the men." said Marty who had sorted out the clothing male from female.
Jack heard him as he came back from
starting
the final
two tubs agitating, "Then I'll take some female clothing and let you
lot
have the male stuff, it's not as if I care one way or the other." He
said
with shrug "I've started the tubs going just dump the female in one and
the male in the other we'll sort it out later once it's dry.
While
you're doing that I'll start using Scourgify on all the mattress and
pillows."
He said walking off tiredly towards the bedrooms.
Gibbs laughed he'd never met a man
so
confident in his
own skin and sexuality or as indifferent to gender roles until he met
Jack.
For all the blurring of gender roles among Wizards due to Magic
enabling
procreation between men few Wizard would or could so blithely dress as
a female and be as comfortable at it as Jack.
"Go and put the clothes on to
wash."
Ordered Gibbs
"I need to start more water boiling for the brushes and combs when
AnaMaria
and Cotton get back." The others headed of carrying the clothes
while
he grabbed the big pot they had been boiling water in and headed for
the
nearest bathroom to get water.
A look at the agitating bed linen
made him
grimace, the
water was black from the dirt coming out of the bedding, those bloody
Muggle
pirates had been filthy creatures. He had a feeling it would take
a few changes of the water to get the bedding clean. He'd start
some
of the men on to the job of emptying out the water and refilling the
tubs
when they got back. The agitating spell should work on the tubs
until
removed so the new water would hopefully be affected as it refilled
otherwise
they need to call Jack to restart them.
****
"Make sure we each get something to
wear from
the dry
clothing." Gibbs ordered turning towards Jack in case he has any other
suggestions, only to find him frowning at an elaborate wooden trunk
with
metal bindings.
"What bothers you about that chest
Capt'n?"
said Gibbs
quietly joining the younger man.
"I think it's Wizard make, Ravenclaw
has one
just like
it. We call ours Rowena toy box but all the Founders had one,
I've
been using Ravenclaws as the Pearls strongbox it's out in the safe."
"You think it's a Founder chest?"
said Gibbs
with a gasp.
"Not only the Founder's had them
most of the
old families
had one on hand, the Ministry is trying to ban them."
"What has the Ministry so upset
about them?"
asked Gibbs
worried.
"It has multi-compartments just like
a
standard high priced Wizard travelling trunk, but unlike the newer
trunks they have what
they
call a safety room where they can hide valuables."
"What's so bad about that, lots of
people hide
valuables."
Said Gibbs relieved.
"Ah! But my dear Joshamee you have
to ask
yourself what
would most Wizarding families including the Founders of Hogwarts
consider
their most valuable treasure."
"Books, Magical objects." Speculated
Gibbs.
"Perhaps but the usual treasure
hidden in such
chests
are the children, these chests are designed to survive anything
including
fire and water. Muggles had the nasty habit of trying to kill
what
they didn't understand."
"You think there might be children
in that
bloody trunk?"
screeched Gibbs in horror, "My God they'd have starved to death."
"It's not that bad if it's a proper
Founder
chest they
might be alive they had stasis spells when the chamber closed, if it's
one of the cheaper copies they will have been dead for some time."
"How do we open it, to find out?"
said Gibbs
with a gulp.
"Gibbs, don't put yourself through
the
anguish, there
may not be any children inside, or they are safely tucked away under
stasis,
if they are dead we can't do anything for them but bury them
properly.
As to opening it, let us pray it is a Founder box from one of those
four
families, when Rowena made them she cheated never removed the Ravenclaw
bloodline from the lock, she called it her skeleton key just in case
the
unthinkable occurs."
"Unthinkable?"
"The reason the Ministry is trying
to get them
banned,
only a blood relative can open them and if the entire family is killed
the children are trapped. Rowena was a confirmed pessimist and
decided
to make sure it had another way to get the children out if all the
adults
in the family were killed, the Goblins are the only ones she told the
secret
too as they are the lock specialists that would be called in.
Mm!
A Crest, 'Scourgify'
he ordered cleaning the chest of dirt.
"Damn that's pretty!" exclaimed
Anamaria in
admiration
looking at the box in its true colours, maroon with brass banding.
"Red and Gold, Gryffindor colours."
Muttered
Jack.
"That isn't the Gryffindor Crest,
close but I
saw it every
day at Hogwarts." Said Gibbs and the rest of the crew nodded.
"The Founders changed the Crests
slightly for
the school
houses so the Families retained their own identity, this is Godric's
original Crest an actual Gryffin instead of a Lion. Which means
it belongs
to the Potter Family as it was inherited by Dragonis, Godric's grandson
he only had one child a daughter who married a Potter."
"The Potters were in Diagon that
day, Thadeus
Potter got
given the Killing Curse, his wife is insane from the second
unforgivable.
Their two-year-old son was at home with the house elves. Last I
heard
the Ministry gave the child and his mother to his Uncle." said Marty.
"Cornelius Potter was a natural
squib ran with
a very
bad crowd, wouldn't have trusted that black hearted rogue with a kid
especially
one who got the inheritance because he had Magic, I doubt he'd have
liked
being saddled with a insane Witch either. He was hung five years
ago for the murder of one of the whores in his brothel in the Muggle
part
of Tortuga. No one ever mentioned a kid in his charge and as his
victim was a Witch the Tortuga Ministry would have gotten a full list
of
victims and they use Veritaserum. Mainly so they can wipe
unsolved
murders from the ledger. The boy would have been about twelve
when
his Uncle was hanged, two years plus the fourteen since Diagon was
attacked
that makes him about sixteen now. Probably shipped out as a cabin
boy to get away from his Uncle." Said Gibbs.
"So we don't have to worry about
children
locked in the
trunk." Said AnaMaria with relief.
"I think we had best check just to
make sure."
Said Jack
with a frown.
"Check the course, could be reefs."
Came the
parrot.
"I guess Cotton agrees with you
Capt'n, no
harm in checking,
and we might find something useful in the compartments."
"The main one for Muggle inspection
is empty,
how do we
open the others." Said AnaMaria eagerly.
"For that I need a dagger." said
Jack they all
locked
at him shocked anyone could open a trunk with a dagger. "For a
drop
of my blood." He snapped smearing a drop of blood on the lock even as
he
spoke. "These older style trunks are tricky, leave the clasp
undone.
Grasp the lock and pull it out as far as it will go, now turn it to
your
left until you hear a click then push it back in. Now open the lid we
should
be at the first wizard compartment."
"Jewellery boxes without the
jewellery, looks
like its
been raided already." Said AnaMaria disappointed.
"AnaMaria check that long box that
looks like
one of Ollivanders
boxes to me." Said Gibbs quickly before she closed the lid. "Two
wands, probably Thadeus and his wife's." said Gibbs softly.
"What are they Marty?"
"Unicorn and rosewood, dragon heart
string and
holly."
Said Marty.
"Won't do me any good." said Gibbs
with a sigh
"Even if
I had my Magic working this early I need Phoenix Feather, put them
aside
and we will try them when our Magic works. Let's open more
compartments."
He said.
"Just repeat what you did before,
keep going
left." Said
Jack
"Wizard spell books, basic kids
stuff for
schooling children
along with children story books and alphabet primers for Wizard
children."
Said Gibbs. "And this," he said lifting out a large book with the same
Crest as the box engraved on the leather cover."
"The Gryffindor Book of Shadows,
readable only
by the
Gryffindor bloodline even a Gryffindor Squib can't read it, useless for
everyone else." Said Jack.
"That should be in a Goblin vault."
Muttered
Gibbs. "Put
it back and lets see what's in the next one."
"Muggle children clothes and
toys. How
many more
compartments Jack."
"This should be the last one, the
old chests
only had
four compartments unlike the newer ones that can have seven.
Watch
it this is the one that usually had the children in stasis."
"Well it’s a room, looks like a
nursery." Said
AnaMaria
"Master Cornelius has been bad
Uncle, has
Master Uncle
come to let Master Pedigrine and Socky out of trunk?" Came the squeaky
voice.
"Oh Damn!" Said Jack closing his
eyes in
resignation.
"No Socky, bad Uncle Cornelius has been punished and is no more, no one
knew you and Master Pedigrine were in the trunk so we have found you by
accident."
"Master must be a Potter, if Master
can open
the trunk,
will Master be looking after my little Master now?" said the House elf
hopefully but warily at the same time.
"Sorry Socky, I'm not a Potter, I'm
Jacklon
Ravenclaw
one of Rowena's line, she made the trunk so a Ravenclaw can also open
it.
May I ask how old is little Pedigrine?"
The Elf blinked, but obediently
said, "Master
Pedigrine
Potter is half and two years, Master Jacklon."
"Jack please or Captain, please
don't call me
Jacklon
it makes me feel as if I'm in trouble." Cringed Jack almost whining.
"Captain Master Jack." Said Socky
obediently.
"Why do I even try." Muttered Jack
to
himself. "Socky
we need to get Pedigrine out of the chest, if it closes and anything
happens
to me it will never be opened again, I would prefer not to take such a
chance with Pedigrine's life."
"Socky will get Master Pedigrine,
Captain
Master Jack
is a good Wizard to be worried about Master Pedigrine." Said the Elf
running
over to the cradle and lifting out a human child.
"Bloody hell Capt'n Jack, thirteen
and a half
years that
poor kid's lost, and if he hadn't had luck on his side he'd be in there
forever. I can't for the life of me figure out how the Tortuga
Ministry
didn't get it out of that blackguard Cornelius before they hung him."
"The trouble with Veritaserum is
that it is
literal, Cornelius
Potter never killed the child." Said Jack thoughtfully. "By
locking
the child in this type of Wizard chest, he could say truthfully under
Veritaserum
that the child was alive as far as he knew. He could also
truthfully
say that he had given the child every Magical protection available at
the
time, then all he had to do was let the chest be stolen and as no
Muggle
can open the Wizard sections the secret would stay hidden. Simply
because to a Muggle it is a perfectly ordinary chest, again he could
say
truthfully under Veritaserum that the boy was stolen and he never found
him again. All he could be accused of in such a case would be
neglect
as he never made an effort to find the boy."
"That still leaves the mother think
she's
alive."
"Doubtful, if the man was as
blackhearted as
you say,
she probably ended up in his whore house and is probably the Witch he
ended
up hanged for killing." Said Jack thoughtfully.
"Hanging was to good for the
bastard." Said
Gibbs in disgust.
"Too late now, he's been dead for
five years."
Snapped
AnaMaria with a growl "We have a baby to take care of." She said
reaching
into to chest to lift him out so the Elf could come out easier.
"Shouldn't he be awake with all this
gabbing
going on?"
she said worried checking to make sure the baby was breathing.
"Bad Master Uncle Cornelius gave
potion,
dreamless sleep
so not cry." Said the elf.
"We can't do anything about that,
he'll just
have to sleep
it off." Said Jack.
"What are we going to do with him."
Said Gibbs.
"For the time being Socky can set
all the
nursery stuff
in the trunk up in the first rider room opposite mine it's still
empty."
Ordered Jack "We'll have Tortuga check on other relatives if they
can't find any I'll either keep him or send him to Lady Jennifer's
orphanage."
Said Jack.
"Come with me Socky and bring the
trunk." Said
AnaMaria
carrying the sleeping baby as if she was holding something worth more
than
all the treasure in the entire Keep.
"Young Ana, should find herself a
husband and
have a few
of her own." Smiled Gibbs.
"AnaMaria prefers her own sex for
bedmates,
told me straight
out that she prefers me as Jennifer." Smirked Jack, Jennifer and
AnaMaria had a very strange relationship, and the sex was even
stranger,
thought Jack with a shiver, flushing slightly when he saw exactly what
AnaMaria had placed on Jacks pile of clothes. Lace underwear, corsets
and
silk stockings and garters had been added to the feminine nightwear and
two velvet dresses Jack himself had chosen having decided to leave the
bulk to AnaMaria.
Gibbs flushed in realisation. "I had
wondered
when she
started putting them into your pile and not her own." He
whispered
softly so the others couldn't hear.
Jack surveyed the clothing with a
speculative
tilt to
his head, "Lady Jennifer shall be making up for Jack's loss of the
Jolly Man for some time to come I fear from the look of that." He
murmured
back.
Slightly shocked, those certainly weren't something Lady Jennifer would
normally wear, more that of a mistress or high priced whore he thought
startled and thoroughly amused at whatever game AnaMaria had thought up
this time for her Ladyship. He really had to see about getting
that
girl a proper girlfriend one of these days.
