Pay a visit to Croydon Camera House, the ideal workplace for a camera nut like me!

Whilst in Winchester UK, I was drawn to the wonderful sound of a guitar unlike any other........unfortunately I wasn't able to find out what it was until recently.

Drawn to the sound of a ten string electric guitar from earlier encounters, I decided to build such an instrument.  Below is the result.  I needed to fabricate a suitable bridge assembly for this beast, so after discovering a solid brass section at the local scrap yard, the rest was easy!  The actual piece of timber used to make this instrument is commonly used in Australia as a door step.   An extremely stable all weather timber, Merbau is very resilient.  Sawing it in half and mounting back to back in a lathe, I arrived at two sculptured bodies.....one a ten string and the other bound for twelve strings and gold hardware?

Frets are cut from 3mm stainless with the body oiled and hand rubbed.  I fabricated a suitably shaped pick up box from aluminium, then had it powder coated along with several camera parts.   Pickups are Jacksons. The sustain and sound of this machine is awesome.........................

1996 saw my attempt at a 16th Century guitar.......made entirely from sketches, it features a neck from timber salvaged from a wrecked early 1900`s piano, some violin tuners and a bridge and nut I made of sun dried and bleached bone, this wonderful little instrument was a joy to make.  With eleven strings it can be a devil to tune, however its 400mm scale length gives a big voice.
