Whilst in Winchester UK, I was drawn to the wonderful sound of a guitar unlike any other........unfortunately I wasn't able to find out what it
was until recently.Drawn to the sound of a ten string electric guitar from earlier encounters, I decided to build such an instrument. Below is the result. I needed to fabricate a suitable bridge assembly
for this beast, so after discovering a solid brass section at the local scrap yard, the rest was easy! The actual piece of timber used to make this instrument is commonly used in Australia as a door
step. An extremely stable all weather timber, Merbau is very resilient. Sawing it in half and mounting back to back in a lathe, I arrived at two sculptured bodies.....one a ten string and the other
bound for twelve strings and gold hardware? Frets are cut from 3mm stainless with the body oiled and hand rubbed. I fabricated a suitably shaped pick up box from aluminium, then had it powder coated along with
several camera parts. Pickups are Jacksons. The sustain and sound of this machine is awesome......................... |
