Panasonic LX3 LCD Viewing Problems
The most common complaint about
the LX3 (and various other Panasonic cameras) is the highly reflective
LCD screen. That might make resolution look nice and sharp but is
dreadful in full sunlight as everything is reflected in it and obscures
what you are trying to see on the LCD itself.
The answer is to
get the face closer to the camera and operate in a shaded sort of close
condition, but of course normal eyesight cannot view things that close.
A solution is to add an appropriate lens in a holder a suitable short
distance away from the screen which allows viewfinder type viewing and
eliminates the reflections. See ClearViewer for that method http://clearviewer.com/Products.html
I'll
add photos later but notice that the ClearViewer is not a hooded
device, just a lens held on a bracket at a short distance from the LCD,
one model does fold flat against the LCD to reduce carrying bulk.
The
alternative solution that adds no bulk at all to the camera is a
plastic anti-glare film added to the LCD. This blurs the reflection to
something less and stops the problem but adds the problem of slightly
reducing apparent resolution and contrast. This neat solution may not
be the answer if you insist on using the LCD for critical reviewing of
images but it does create an easy to see LCD in normal sunlight and with the
camera held in the usual way at normal reading distance. See BoxWave
for one type of that anti-glare screen http://www.boxwave.com/products/cleartouch/index.htm
