Olympus and OMDS Timeline Release Dates and some Features

Back to Menu Page

This page is always work in progress, always deciding what details to add and what to exclude and of course adding new bodies as they are announced.
Any errors or suggestions please tell me at

As for colour coding, experimenting with         for best combination of features, and        for close second best, and         for close least desirable in current terms. Some columns may not be colour coded as user tastes dictate their usefulness. Be warned, this is a rather personal view of what features are desirable, the cells do change colours at times as I later decide what is better best etc.. The Date column is the date of the official announcement. The battery column colours are to highlight any differences. The fashion for "Mark II" and "Mark III" models annoys me and confuses some so I've adopted "Mk2" and "Mk3" here for clarity.

June 2020, Olympus is set to carve-out the imaging division to JIP by the end of 2020. The new company name will be OM Digital Solutions. Olympus appears to retain a 5% share in the new company.  The Olympus name on products after 1 Jan 2021 will be around for a while but questions remain will it be preserved for any new products developed under the OM Digital Solutions name. Meanwhile until then some Olympus branded products already in development will keep coming.

More Notes.

Pen line seems to have faded to now a camera called E-P7 sold in some markets but is really something less.

For the mock SLR shaped cameras the OM-1 is the current flagship camera, and now OM-5 is the lesser model for enthusiasts.

Andrzej Wrotniak's pages are definitely of help with Pen and OM-D cameras.
