Olympus File Name
Found
in Custom Menu (gear wheel) H - Edit File Name. Page 77 of E-PL1 manual
but no description. Same information applies to all Pens and OM-D.
For
me this feature is valuable, I already have too many cameras that start
with file name "P" so making the file names into something sensible does help later.
The
default system of PMDDxxxx is a little painful as M = Month 1 - 9 then
A, B, C for Oct, Nov, Dec., and DD is 01 - 31 for the day date.
Changing to something useful helps. With three Pens in the house for a while I adopted this strategy.
Original E-PL1 has PL1Axxxx, the E-PL1 that failed under warranty and was abandoned had PL1Bxxxx file names.
The E-P3 that was supplied as the warranty replacement has EP3Axxxx.
The E-PL5 has PL5Axxxx, and if a second one comes along of course it would be PL5Bxxxx.
I set a friend's E-M5 on the right path by having EM5Axxxx file naming.
If
any of the first four characters are left at (off) then they default to
the PMDD information so parts of days or months appearing in file
numbers do confuse somewhat. The initial P is for sRGB files and that
changes to an initial _ (underscore character) if an AdobeRGB file. But
colour space and date are in the exif data so no need for them to be in
the file names, hence my changes to something useful.
