Olympus E-PL1 Focus Box
Page 34 of my manual talks about Display Magnification, but has a hint they also mean that it changes the focus box.
I always seem to use cameras with a fixed central focus box as focus and recompose seems to be my way of doing things.
Sometimes
that default focus box is too large for the situation so a method of
changing its size is described below. The manual tells how to
change the "Zoom Frame AF" on page 46 of my manual, and that changes both the magnifier box and the
focus box size. I had my doubts that the focus box size changed but
some quick across a dim room tests seemed to indicate that the box size
displayed for the magnifier did also change the focus box.
Press the Magnify button to make the green box appear.
Press INFO and then use up/down to change the box, 7x, 10x, 14x possible variations. With 14x being the smallest box.
At
power off/on the box defaults to 7x (seen at shutter half press) but
press Magnify again to get to your chosen 10x or 14x box displayed.
When
the Magnify button is first pressed, the green focus box appears on the screen, it can be moved all over the
place with the up/down/right/left buttons. To get it centred again and stay at the selected zoom box size then
hold the OK button for a second or so.
If
you only press the OK button for a short time then the camera drops the
focus box display and defaults to the large 7x box at next AF attempt
and also centres the box. Next time Magnify is pressed then the
selected zoom box will be at the centre.
