Ireland and UK Holiday 2015, 25th JuneTo Telford in Shropshire
Drove to Telford and found that the motel is in a services complex. But amazingly is the quietest yet as we scored a ground floor room on the side away from the traffic. Got here too early to check in so wandered off to nearby Bridgnorth just to see the cliff railway but discovered that it is a very nice little town, lots to look at. Bridgnorth complete with an old town hall and presumably market area under it.......
![]() Plus some old building fronts........ ![]() And probably one of the oldest in town, the plaque on the wall near the door says 1580 build and it was one of the few that survived the civil war fire of 1646, so genuinely old, the others newer but made to look old..... ![]() Now to the cliff railway which we came here for, the blue "bus" is the thing we travel in...... ![]() It is the shortest and steepest in England. Originally was water powered like the one that still is at Lynton-Lynmouth but got modern and this one now is electric motor driven, here are the two balanced cars about to pass each other........ ![]() Down the bottom and from the bridge across the Severn River the view back up to the town is pleasant.... ![]() Bridgnorth is also at one end of the steam railway that runs up the valley, may go back again to see more of that later. Meanwhile I'll battle to try and upload this day, the free BT WiFi here is totally terrible in operation, cannot even access any Google function, Lyn cannot use the iPad and no gmail to contact anyone. Took many tries to get the previous day uploaded, let's hope this day works better. |
