Ireland and UK Holiday 2015, 21st JuneAt Gloucester
A bit more driving today, first to Didcot Railway Centre where a lot of Great Western line engines and rolling stock have been saved, then to Pendon Museum where scale models of real houses and properties and landscapes try to show the seemingly idyllic life of the 1920s to 1930s. Then some old friends got in touch when they got back home Sunday morning so we went and visited them in Royal Wootton Bassett near Swindon. Once inside Didcot the trains rides were free to use so we went for a ride with this nice shiny tank engine.......
![]() The special event for Father's Day here in England was that (for extra cost) dad could get to drive a steam engine, some drove it cautiously, some thought they were on a race track...... ![]() And a rather elegant big blue loco in one of the storage sheds....... ![]() That's enough of those, lots more shots of locos and rolling stock but I see that you are getting bored already. Next on to Pendon Museum where a West Australian living in England wanted to preserve the look of the countryside and the train operations of the 1920-1930 period before all the old buildings and tracks disappeared. Extremely nice and feature accurate modeling to OOscale, about 1:76 scale. The emphasis on buildings but the trains are also very much in evidence. Very hard to photograph as the glass interferes and the lighting is a bit variable. More info at http://www.pendonmuseum.com/about/origins and others have now carried on his work in the same style with the emphasis on accuracy. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was a natural to show this model....... ![]() For the ones who need glasses...... ![]() The Parsons name shows up a lot in Devon down south, this signal box above was on the coastal line near Teignmouth. The road near the museum holds a few real houses that look nice...... ![]() ![]() ![]() That's all for today, packing up and moving to York tomorrow. |
