At Killorglin

Today the Ring of Kerry trip. Weather went from doubtful to rather bad, first half more scenic anyway, latter half not so scenic and the mists and rain had set in anyway.

Some coastal scenery as we start on the Ring drive.....

Really impressive cliffs on the Skellig Ring, near Portmagee.......

The road just keeps going, in this case up a very steep hill and down again steeply on the far side.......

View from the hill back down to Portmagee........

There are many little roadside shrines like this to bless travellers, with some of the dangerous driving seen they really are needed.....

Charlie Chaplin used to holiday in Waterville, so they made a statue.......

Some farms seen from one of the high view points......

Remains of an old fort (maybe 2000 yrs old) at Staigue.......

Inside the walls, the original houses inside long gone as they would have been timber and thatch....

An overall view using a fisheye lens......

Back again to Killorglin, finishing the loop......

The Puck Fair mentioned on the banner on the bridge is all about an ancient ceremony (maybe) where they head into the hills and capture the biggest male goat and keep him captive as King Puck for a few days. Combined with a cattle sale and fair it is the usual good excuse to all get drunk.....
