Ireland and UK Holiday 2015, 29th MayAt Killorglin
Went to Dingle and then did the Slea Head route and saw the famine houses, back to Dingle then up and over the Connor Pass (spectacular views) then to the Blennerville windmill, totally disappointing, then meandered back via some tragically narrow roads (SatNav in control?) but the payoff was yet more spectacular views. Coastal view on the way to Dingle.....
![]() As well as rolling farmland scenery, very nice to look at, does not photograph so well...... ![]() In Dingle, tourist trap, overcrowded, over-rated in my opinion....... ![]() ![]() ![]() Slea Head route has very narrow roads in places yet the tourist buses still go there, spectacular coastal scenery....... ![]() The famine houses have their tragic story in detail about the potato blight and how the landlords still insisted the farmers export their wheat to England, while the peasants had only the spuds to eat, so died or migrated. No wonder the Irish did not like the English much at all....... ![]() Connor Pass is quite high (Ireland's highest Pass) and views to both north and south, wind blowing like crazy and very cold..... ![]() Blennerville windmill was restored to real working condition from a wreck, and now seems to be going back that way, does not work any more, weird little museum, best avoided........ ![]() Then our SatNav girl led us the shortest route back to Killorglin and we travelled the twistiest, narrowest roads yet, through the screen shot, those dotted lines are just a car wide, need to dive into little laybys if a car comes......... ![]() But had a few amazing views on the way...... ![]() |
