Ireland and UK Holiday 2015, 25th May

On to New Ross

Breakfast then pack the car and a quick look around Wicklow Harbour area then on the road again, tried to find Avoca but failed, so went on to Wexford, could be a nice place but never found the tourist info centre. Parking of course impossible so on again to New Ross. Visited the replica famine ship and the tapestry project. Then to The Rower nearby where we are staying in the Ferry House B&B for a few days.

Sample of the coastline near Wicklow Harbour, obligatory ruins on top (Black Castle)......

Nothing exciting in the harbour, just a few private boats plus some battered fishing boats out of the picture....

Out of window view while driving in Wexford looking for the Information Centre, never found it......

On the roads we meet many tractors hauling all sorts of stuff and all sorts of wide farm machinery. Not so bad here, but in those ultra narrow fully hedged lanes we go in often  it gets to be fun when meeting one.........

Then on to New Ross where we visited the Dunbrody, a replica of the ship that was for the period of the famine taking migrants to America and Canada. The conditions for the poor travellers were probably worse than modern day tourist class travel.... hard to imagine....

On board during the tour there was a little bit of play acting, talking about the conditions of the travel, it was grim.....

Nearby is the Ros Tapestry museum, where a multi panel tapestry set is slowly being made to cover the early Irish history, extremely interesting and well presented. No photos allowed of the tapestries but we were allowed up into the work room. It takes years of work to make one and it will be some years before they are all completed........

A closeup of a small portion being worked on.......

A quick visit to Hook Head and the really old lighthouse, the basis of the current structure has been there for 800 years or so.....

On the road back from Hook Head is this old church ruin, associated with the Knights Templar.........

Then on to the Ferry House B&B where we will stay for 3 nights, nice place with really nice owners.........
