Teaching Notes

Young people need to believe their futures will be safe and secure and their dreams possible. It is this hope that will feed their imaginations. The world they will be growing up into will be very different from the one we know at present, and in particular information technology will considerably impact upon the quality of life of all communities throughout the world.

World peace will rely upon these new generations of young people working constructively within their communities. Their dreams can now begin to be dreamed. This particular activity has been designed to promote and develop such positive thinking and action in young people...and help develop faith in themselves and their futures.

By firstly planting then nurturing such dreams young people can begin imagining their place in this new world and perhaps begin thinking about the kinds of ideas and possibilities they will need to explore to actualise their dreams. They will also be inspired when they hear or read about other students' dreams and hopes.

Presenting only negative images of their futures will only incite helplessness and depair so it would be very important to help young people create positive and happy images of their futures, ones they believe can eventuate not only for themselves but for the world...with everyone benefitting.

This activity also encourages some thinking about how we should treat others and explores and expands the students' value systems.
