ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JOHN SUMMONS has been writing plays for adults and children for many years. He has had productions by a number of Sydney's leading theatres with his plays directed by some of Australia's top directors including Richard Wherrett and Hayes Gordon. He was also playwright-in-residence at Sydney's Ensemble Theatre. In addition to his writing he has been a high school teacher of English, ESL, history and drama and a lecturer in a course for playwrights at Sydney's Institute of Technology (now UTS). His play publishers have included Cambridge University Press (UK), The Dramatic Publishing Company (USA)* and Currency Press (Australia). He has been produced for radio by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). He has a keen interest in theatre for children and was involved in theatre-in-education for many years. His play Massacre at Myall Creek toured various states of Australia for several years and played to many thousands of students. He is a member of the Australian Writers Guild.

Besides writing plays he has had a long interest in computers, e-learning and software development. In 2000 he programmed and authored an interactive CD Teacher's P.E.T. for the Australian Commonwealth and NSW governments to help students with literacy problems. In 2006 he received a state award from the NSW Department of Education for excellence in the integration of information and communication technologies in the classroom.

The purpose of this web site is as a reference site for his work and to use the opportunties of new technologies to deliver his work widely and more directly.


*His play Kamikaze Kate is available through The Dramatic Publishing Company (USA) and has been listed as an approved text for the University Interscholastic League one-act play competition for a number of years.
