The
Third Day of Easter
Although we remember the climax of Jesus suffering as the crucifixion on Good Friday, the Bible often makes reference to 3 days of trouble and broken fellowship, which seem to begin with the day of betrayal (Thursday, rather than Friday).
Two of the synoptic Gospels indicate Jesus said he would suffer and be raised on the third day, but one of the Gospels indicates Jesus said he would suffer and rise after 3 days.
Which is correct?
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.
And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
Perhaps we can consider that Jesus didnt rise on the 3rd day after he was killed, but rather on the 3rd day after his betrayal (and the beginning of his physical suffering), and that the period of suffering was over 3 calendar days, after which he rose victoriously on Resurrection Sunday.
