Topic for today Snowboarding Safety - Wrist Guards?

USATODAY.com - Montel Williams talks snowboard safety

"I've been working in Big Bear now almost seven years and I have only seen two broken wrists when people were wearing splints or wrist guards out of the literally countless broken wrists that I have treated," Fagan notes.

From personal experience I’ve been told from a doctor in the ER room (Perisher, Australia) that Wrist guards seem to transfer the impact energy from a fall to the elbow and a broken arm compared to a broken wrist he summarised by saying which is better a broken arm for 6 weeks or a broken wrist for 4 weeks?

Thredbo Ski Patrol - Safety Documents.

some articles about ski safety, as well as the safety responsibility code you may have seen around many ski resorts...

Common Snowboarding Injuries

In snowboarding, both feet are strapped onto the same board and always point the same direction. This protects the knee from any twisting. However, the upper-extremity is in the position to take the force of a fall.

Tips for Snowboarders -- familydoctor.org

and finally... something i shouldn't be reading before going down.... but i have anyway.

Snowboarding Injuries

In terms of injury rates, most ski physicians agree that boarding carries a slightly higher risk of injury than alpine skiing - around 3-5 injuries per thousand boarder days (as compared to 2-4 per thousand days for skier injuries). Remember though - that is still very low - at worst 0.5%! Once again, so much for snowboarding being a dangerous sport eh?!

Today I choose to Attack Sugar.. trying to find the "Daily Recommendend Dieatary Intake of sugar for Australians" is not the most easy thing on the world... lucky there's Google

And in the RED corner we have Sugar.org.au - Sugar dietary guideline remains Telling us things like
"There is no direct scientifically-proven link between sugar consumption itself and obesity" - Sugar.org.au

And in the BLUE corner we have National ealth and Medical Research Council (I'm refer to the PDF document Dietary Guidelines for Australian Adults)

"The presence of high amounts of sugar can, however, dilute the nutrient density of the diet, and diets high in added sugar have been associated with development of obesity and dental caries" - NHMRC

My findings:
Diets high in carbohydrate are not associated with
the development of obesity independently of energy intake. People whose diets
are high in carbohydrates usually have a lower prevalence of obesity, heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer.-NHMRC

Now i'm not completly sure but i thought diets high in sugar(Carbohydrates) were linked to diabetes later in life.. Perhaps i'm confusing Sugar's with obesity.

The more i read about this the more interesting it becomes.

In Australia, consumption of beverages, most of which are sweetened with sugars, is increasing. Carbonated and aerated beverages have become the most popular beverages, and consumption of these beverages has continued to increase—from the late 1980s figure of 87.4 litres per person per year to 113.0 litres in 1998–99. This is an increase of 30 per cent in a decade and an increase of 3.7 per cent in the year prior to 1998–99.

happy to say I think i might have contributed an extra few points for the above.

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder is the most common neuro-behavioural disorder in children and among the most prevalent chronic conditions in schoolaged children. There is no evidence that sugars or sugar-containing foods are involved in the aetiology of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

I'm still betting the the amount of sugar a kid consumes is proportional to how hyper the kid is.. e.g as the AMTOFSUGAR increases the greater the HYPERNESS.
