My understandings of the lyrics are that it would be about him and a girl and how the old way about communicating never work's, strategy. Perhaps he's saying that we need a new strategy about communicating.

Paul is talking about change and the need for change. I think he is talking about a girl / boy relationship that’s becomes too comfortable. Avoiding confrontation and such. The song is splits very much into two sides. The verses describe what’s not working in the relationship and the chorus seems to me that its his conscience is yelling at him about what he could be doing.

Anyway this is one of my favourite songs and it’s my understanding of it.

This weekend it’s going to be very new to me… I am going back to finish off something that I started a while ago… this time it will be without the emotional weight that I had put on myself the last time I went down.

My best friend Nathan and I are off to the snow for the weekend. Also down there is girl I’ll be meeting up with for the second time (‘go Joe!’ I can hear shelly yelling).

When I’m talking about finishing something I started I’m talking about the snow trip last time I cut it short for a girl. This time no way… this time it’s me and that hill and Nathan along my side laughing as I try to pull off a huge trick that is way out of my league.
