DVE Transitions

Instead of the boring "Mix", "Wipe" and even "User-mix-thru-video" transitions, I want to be able to set up a DVE Effect as my Transition Type. I don't want to have to use my Keyers to do this (as I currently have to); I just want it to work. (I don't want to mention any names, but the competition's product can do this.)
Here's how I imagine it happening:
  • First I set up my DVE transition, either on a Kalypso Transform Engine, or on an External DVE. The effect should have at least two keyframes: one with the image totally gone, and the other with the image Full-Frame, as the beginning and end keyframes.
  • In an "M/E | User Transition" menu, I assign the DVE or TE to one of the three "User" transition-types. Perhaps I even have to select whether my effect does a "reveal" or a "conceal", so the Kalypso knows whether to transform the A-background or the B-background.
  • To enable a DVE transition, I need only select the "User" button as the Transition Type. A TE will be acquired (if one is available, otherwise the button will not select) and the effect will be loaded. As I move the fader or use the Auto Trans, any selected Transition Elements will be transformed.
  • If I have "Bkgd" and any combination of keys selected as the transition elements, both the background and selected keys will be transformed by the DVE effect. Any active but unselected keys will remain on-air through the transition.
  • The early documentation for the Kalypso specifically states that this is not only possible, but planned:
"Every Kalypso M/E video or key path can be sent to an internal effects engine or an external effects device. Any or all of the four keyer sources (video and key) plus any or all of the four background buses (A, B, U1 and U2) can have effects applied or can be used for DPM wipe transitions of backgrounds, keys, or both at once." (Kalypso TECHNICAL REFERENCE ORDERING GUIDE, SEPTEMBER, 2002, emphasis added.)
So, bring it on - I'm ready for it.

V+V / V+K+S Transform Engines
The same manual from the previous entry goes on to state that the three Transform Engines on a card can actually be operated as six video-only TEs. This is great news, and I look forward to seeing it. Even better would be if these six video-only TEs had a full-frame transformed key signal, much like the DVEous can operate channels 1A+1B as a video plus key (plus shadow), or as two separate video channels with rectangular key signals. When?

Attaching a TE to a Background Row
And while we're talking TE, I should be able to attach a Transform Engine to a Background Row so I can use "Blur" without tying up a keyer. I could also change the aspect ratio of a source without having to do it on a keyer. It's not so unreasonable: The "Signal Flow" diagram in the manual shows background busses going through the Effects Send Switch, so maybe it's a feature that's on the way.
