...I dream things that never were, and say "Why Not?"

As good as the Kalypso is, there is still room for improvement. This is a list of some things I think Thomson Grass Valley could address to make a good product better. Note that this is mostly a theoretical section - you probably won't find anything written here on a Kalypso ever (unless they offer me a job).

So let's begin with some brief and self-evident features that don't require any thought.
Are you listening Mr Thomson? (or is that Mr Valley?)

These are in no particular order.
  • You should be able to change the Primary Preview Aux Bus from the Aux Bus menu.
  • You should be able to assign Gang Rolls from a menu.
  • The Still Store preview button showing SS8 is dumb. If anything, it should show SS7, and when used with [Alt Pvw] should show SS8.
  • Transform Engines need a three-D Axis Cursor.
  • I should get a life.
  • "Report View" in the File Ops menu should display the date of a file.
  • There should be a menu similar to the "E-Mem / Source Holds" menu where you can prevent a key's on/off state from changing when an E-mem is recalled.
  • There should be the ability in Split M/E mode to allow a key to be visible in both Primary and Secondary partitions.
  • Why not the ability to assign a Still Store output to provide the texture for Backgrounds. And then how about allowing the same thing for other Mattes, but without needing to use the Utility Rows (as you would have to do it at present).
