Source Name Displays

Since you will probably have your Aux controller mapped differently, set the Source Name Display for the Aux bus to show both Shifted/Unshifted.

Since you most often do not cut Full-Frame to sources that you are keying, you might find it handy if you set your Key rows so they default to "Shifted" Sources, and Background rows to "Unshifted". This will give you the maximum number of Sources that you can cut to without needing to use the Shift button. The Source Name display could then be set to "Split", showing the Key Sources at the top, and the Background Sources at the bottom. The arrows in the green Status Display (showing Shift Status) then point "up" for the top name, and "down" for the bottom name.

For beginner-training purposes, though, I've found it useful to leave M/Es set to Unshifted. That way, you can only see the names of sources you can select; pressing Shift changes both the display and the sources that can be selected.

It can be very confusing to set the Display preference to Unshifted and the M/E Shift preference to Shifted. Perhaps this should be listed in the Practical Jokes section of the website.
