This "Tricks" section is to help you get more out of your Kalypso than anybody ever dreamed about.
Copying a Timeline to a different M/E
Kalypso currently does not allow a Timeline (a set of keyframes stored within a single E-Mem) to be copied to a different Mix/Effects row. Here is one way to perform such a copy.
For the sake of this exercise, I'll assume you want to copy a Timeline (number 41) from M/E3 to M/E2. If you want the target to be a different E-Mem number, use this method to copy it to the same number, and then perform a [Put Eff] to the E-Mem you want it to be. (It is possible to copy to a different number, but I want to keep this as simple as I can.)
-
Empty
M/E2's register 41: In the Master E-Mem subpanel, turn off [Auto Recall], delegate M/E2 (the target M/E) and select the E-Mem you want to erase - in this case 41. Then press [Get Eff] [.] [Enter]. This will clear the register for M/E2 only.
-
Recall M/E3's register 41: In the Master E-Mem subpanel, delegate M/E3 (the source M/E) and select Bank 4 register 1. This will load the Timeline into M/E3. Leave the Master E-Mem panel with both M/E2 and M/E3 delegated.
-
If you have many keyframes in this Timeline, begin recording a Macro at this point.
-
Copy one Keyframe: Using the Copy/Swap subpanel (or the menu), perform a Swap from M/E3 to M/E2. Doing this as a Swap will ensure that there are no Resource Conflicts - if your source M/E used all your Transform Engines, for example, the destination M/E could not acquire them if you used Copy.
-
Insert the Keyframe to M/E2: Undelegate M/E3 (the Source M/E), because you don't want to overwrite it in this step. Press [Mod]. This will make the current state of M/E2 (which is a copy of the keyframe from M/E3) into a Keyframe.
-
Advance to the next Keyframe: Re-delegate M/E3 in the Master E-Mem subpanel, then press [Next KF].
-
For long timelines: If you are making a Macro, at this point stop the recording, and (probably) attach the Macro to a handy button, to make the copy of one keyframe into a single-button process.
-
Repeat the procedure: If you are using a Macro, you need only run the Macro. It will do the copy of the next Keyframe and advance to the next one. Easy-Peasy.
If you are not using a Macro (because it's only a short Timeline), just repeat the steps: Swap; undelegate the source M/E; [Mod]; re-delegate the source M/E; [Next KF].
-
Once the Timeline has been copied from one M/E to another, you can then re-combine any other levels if required.
Turn on [Auto Recall] and recall the entire Timeline (in our example, Bank 4 register 1). M/E3 will be delegated, but M/E2 won't be. So turn ON M/E2, and turn OFF M/E3.
Update the E-Mem header by pressing [Learn] [Mod]. This will make the new "Auto Recall" use M/E2 instead of M/E3.
All done! And much easier than a previous method I've recommended. If you find yourself needing to do this often, first: get into the habit of planning your effects before you start; and second: tell Thomson we want a "Timeline Copy" function.
