External Mass Storage Devices

You need to provide offline storage for effects and setups.

Kalypso Classics use a SCSI interface, with an external CD-ROM drive and a Zip drive. The more recent Kalypsos with the Enhanced Menu Panel have USB ports, with a CD-ROM drive built-in to the Menu.

The CD is used for Software Updates, and possibly might be ideal for the transfer of Stills or animations, as its capacity is around 600MB. If you have a Classic, the drive needs to be accessible without too much trouble.

A Zip Drive is useful on a daily basis for operational purposes and for backups (especially on older SCSI Kalypsos). Make sure the Zip drive is easily accessible from the operator's position.

Newer Kalypsos may be able to use USB Flash Drives as a viable mass storage device. The USB sockets are beneath the Enhanced Menu Panel. Consider extending from there to a hub in a convenient location, near a flat area where Zip drives or other external storage devices can be placed.
