Choice of Tally Generation
Consider whether GPI Tallies are a better option than Serial Tallies.
The Kalypso can provide Tally information through a serial interface or through GPI contact closures. Serial Tallies must be decoded by an external device into meaningful information. If you make changes to your method of tally generation, you need to re-program the external device accordingly. For example, one outside broadcast program may require red camera tallies for "on air", but provide green camera tallies when the camera is selected on an ISO switcher. Another program may give cameras a green tally when they are "next" in the look-ahead preview. Kalypso's Tally menu provides a powerful and simple method to achieve these kinds of changes, but it only works with the GPI tallies, not with serial tallies (as at Software Version 11). Unless you have an extremely simple mechanism to reprogram serial tallies to "give a red tally when on PPA, PPB or PPD, but give a green tally when on Aux12, Aux 13, Aux 16 or Aux 21", I suggest you use GPI tallies.
Note: Each GPI Tally Relay Group can address 32 sources; there are two groups as standard, so the first group can deliver 32 on-air tallies and the second can be for 32 look-aheads or Aux Buss selections (or even as 32 extra on-air tallies). At extra cost you can purchase a second set of Tally Relays, doubling your capability. Note that tally relay outputs are totally customisable, so you don't have to waste tally outputs on sources that don't require tallies.
