Transition Animations
A common requirement these days is to hide the transition between two sources with a brief animation. Here are some ways to do it.
Using a Wipe
Similar to a User Transition, but you use a bordered Wipe (quite a wide border) and instead of a Matte colour, you fill with video from a Utility Row. It looks especially good with soft edges, too.
Using a Keyer - "Video Luminance" key
The animation is reasonably "bright", on a black background, and is done as a Video key in Luminance mode. A mix (or wipe) is done as a background transition as the key develops.
Using a Keyer - "External Fixed-Linear" key
The animation is on a device that can produce a separate key signal in sync with the video, or two sources that can be locked together. As above, a mix (or wipe) is done as a background transition as the key develops.
Using a Keyer - Chromakey
The animation happens over a chromakey colour such as blue or green (the colour chosen because it doesn't appear in the animation). The first and last frame is totally chromakey colour, and as above and more above, a mix (or wipe) is done as a background transition as the key develops.
Using Two Keyers - two-colour chromakeys
This is such as specialised case that it will be listed separately. Select that page from the menu at left.
In each of these cases, you could use a short Kalypso Still Store Clip as the animation, subject to the tiny number of frames you have available (unless you have the Klip Kache option), or the animation could be on an external device, computer or DDR. If on a linear device such as a VTR, you would need to be able to cue it after use, and is less practicable than the other methods.
