Who am I?

About Gilbert Labour

Mr Labour is a writer, consultant, advisor, speaker and presenter on the following topics: life coaching, executive coaching, project management, IT infra-structure management, Six Sigma, Lean techniques and people management.

Use as much of the service as you require but please note as coaching is a relationship which requires and places responsibility on you to complete agreed upon tasks, there will be regular scheduled feedback and catchup sessions. These are usually by phone or ICQ.

Who am I?

These are some personal details which may help you to get to know me better and help you in your final selection of an appropriate life and executive coach.

I am 45 years of age and live in Sydney, Australia. I was born in Mauritius in 1958 and only spoke french when I emigrated to Australia in 1967 with my family. But I adapted quickly intellectually and was fluent in english in about 1 year reading dictionaries and encyclopedias for fun and also to pick up english as quickly as I could and stop standing out with my very thick french accent. As my father also taught my year in a separate school, I also benefited from reading his curriculum material. I was around 11 years old at this time and read enormously. I also at that time duxed my class in almost every subject.

But the way that I am and that I think were inside me a long time before the period I am referring to above. I have been the way I am, searching and thinking, since I have been 6 years of age or so. There is nothing in me now that wasn't there then. I have added knowledge yes but not the way that I have with people, my highest regard and affection for people and my ability to help them, understand them and place myself at their disposal to assist in any way I can. This has more or less been with me from Day 1 as I lived with a sister who was more brilliant than me so I was always looking for ways where I could outshine her and in the area of making myself as indispensable and as needed as possible and as useful as possible I excelled. I still am in that area.

My father was a very intellectual person and exposed me at a very young age to the best of french literature especially in the areas of the novel and poetry. He was also a poet, a journalist, a teacher, a business owner (he owned a newspaper and his own printing press) and was generally highly respected for his intelligence, humour, charm and attractiveness. The thing that makes him highly germane to my story is not that he was all that and much more but he lived what he was. He spent a lot of time explaining the sources of his knowledge and explaining how he interpreted what he read. His reading was massive and broached most subjects. My personal details covers my father in great depth because he taught me the how to be a great coach by showing and being one himself. He was not only very strong intellectually but a brilliant teacher and listener.

This web site contains all my own original ideas and techniques in respect to life and executive coaching but in a sense these ideas are what I have inherited from my father. So in essence they are a combination of his ideas and mine that have coalesced seamlessly or so it seems over the last 30 years. But it is not quite so as he and I had some highly interesting discussions exploring these ideas further. I have elsewhere on this web site described the roots of my life and executive coaching. They are mine and his. As he is no longer alive, I carry on the journey he started.

I have been coaching, advising, mentoring and helping people most of my life. I have been formally coaching for the last 10 years in varying capacities as part of work responsibilities and also working with external clients. It is only in the last six months that I have formalised the lessons learnt and my practices and principles from this work in this web site. I am highly experienced in dealing with all types of people but if you read my work, you will see that most of my work is with people who either in all aspects of their lives or in some key aspects of their lives are incapable of moving on after some life changing or catastrophic event. I excel in executive coaching situations and also in resolving problems where life coaching principles and techniques are most helpful.

My life and executive coaching principles and techniques are my totally own original work as discussed above. I bring this to bear during our sessions together with my practical approach forged in the crucible of experience. If this coaching methodology appeals to you, then please call me.

I don't believe just the client should be out there setting and achieving goals. The coach must also have his targets and be working towards them.
