Gilbert Labour Announces The Life Coaching Association of Australia (LCAA)
Gilbert Labour announces the formation of the peak national body for Australian based life coaches - The Life Coaching Association of Australia (LCAA) - to further the reach and influence of life coaches and life coaching techniques into all spheres of Australian society
Mr Labour, a leading Mauritian born but Australian based life and executive coach, is in a unique position to lead the founding of this organisation having for the past two years the No.1 rated web site in Google for Life and Executive Coaching. Currently these are 1,300,000 other web
sites listed. Mr Labour's web site is a world class resource for coaches and their clients. It provides a comprehensive treatment of life coaching suitable for use in most coaching situations. Mr Labour has created this site to both further the understanding of life coaching around the world
and to provide a framework and structure for coaching interactions.
The Life Coaching Association of Australia (LCAA) will be involved in a number of functions and activities. It will have a strong role in setting competency and practising standards for life coaches in Australia and be a model for the world. These standards of competency, ethics and behaviour
will be set in consultation with coaches and industry subject matter experts. It will provide a centralised agency for registering life coaches, for monitoring the performance of individual coaches, for handling complaints against life coaches embodying the principles of natural justice and fairness
and provide leadership in setting life coaching 'best practice' principles.
It will also facilitate an open forum for members to discuss life coaching related matters. This will involve members working together to address and tackle major general issues affecting life coaches in Australia and the world. It will as a result of its world wide focus provide a contact point for
visiting life coaches around the world and it will also monitor the life coaching industry as a whole and seek to represent the industry and Australian point of view in the current national and international 'efficacy of coaching' debate.
There are 5 grades of membership of the LCAA (Fellow, Master, Associate, Student & Guest) and two streams - a life coaching and an executive coaching stream. Membership can be for either stream or both based on practice experience. International life and executive coaches are also welcome to apply

Flight from Reality to Obesity
A coach is a role model and a practical and thought leader and one who is obese cannot work with an obese
person to conquer obesity
These are some excerpts from the my forthcoming book Life Coaching for DODOs. Chapter 1 deals with obesity and
is entitled Flight from Reality to Obesity.
I provide a general approach to looking at obesity from a life coaching perspective. I use examples and also
learnings from a lifetime of dieting and exercise. There is general and also specific information. The problem is
extremely serious but this chapter looks at it in a light, easy, non-threatening and down to earth manner. I use
the word program along the length of the chapter - the program is the set of approaches that I lay down here. They
are not codified and are meant for you (if you are the obese person reading this) or for you as a coach working with
an obese person to distill from the program below an approach that will work in your circumstances. Not everything will
be applicable and in the sequence in which I elaborate them. Use a mix and match approach to deal with the problem of obesity.
A Life Coaching exploration of obesity and the five journeys of obesity, all equally difficult and fraught with danger. Obesity is not
a food problem but an emotional and self-image problem. The problem of obesity is not the weight gain or loss as both are an obesity problem
but how you manage the obesity problem. Excessive weight loss is as much a problem as excessive weight gain and this chapter looks at the deep
seated causes and remedies for this problem. When the management of the obesity problem becomes greater than the obesity problem itself then you
have a deep seated problem on your hands and this chapter addresses this far greater and more deep seated problem not obesity per se.
I have written on my web site that there is no such thing as out of control projects but out of control people. I wrote this in relation to project
management. In relation to obesity there is no such thing as an out of control obesity problem, there is only an out of control person and possibly a poor
approach to managing obesity.
Steps to Deal with Obesity
Is there a clear agreement with yourself (if you are the obese person) and with your coach (if you are working with one) that there is a problem and we agree to call the problem obesity? Without this open discussion and subsequent agreement, the program cannot commence.
Self-image, self-confidence & self worth. What is at the base of the obesity problem? This problem is bigger than just kilos - it is about a fundamental rejection of life and happiness. It is dealing with anger, stress, disappointment, regret, depression and anxiety all rolled into one resolution/delivery mechanism - food. It is about bringing a state of chaos into your life by the introduction of something good and wholesome into something which in prodigious quantities
makes you ill and it does this slowly almost by stealth. Food addiction is an insidious disease, difficult to diagnose, control and treat. We all have to eat but it is difficult to know when enough is enough when full means full and what are the signals that mean the end of the meal.
Relationships. How to make relationships work when it is an effort to just get out of bed. What is the signal that the obese person is saying to their partner? Keep away, stay way, go away, don't bother me. Is there a problem with the relationship is the first thing you should ask yourself? Is there a problem that I am hiding from by using this layer of emotional insulation. Fat is a good insulator from the cold of unhappiness, rejection, disloyalty and despair.
Business and work. What is the obese person saying to their work colleagues and associates? I am damaged, I am insecure, I am hurting, I am in deep pain, I cannot function, I am sloppy, My partner has left me, I am all over the place, I am in a mess, I cannot help myself, I cannot help anybody else and worst of all no-one can help me. Working with an obese person is hard work. I once knew a grossly obese person who always had a bowl of fresh fruit in front of her yet
day by day she never got any thinner and she never ate the fruit. So what was the purpose of the fruit bowl? A fruit bowl in those circumstances was like a mirage of water to a man dying of thirst in a desiccated desert - an illusory dream, a cruel joke on him. For me the obese person, the fruit bowl was so anathema to what she stood for that it was practically non-existent. The idea of health and goodness embodied in the fruit instantly vaporised in her presence. It was a
dangerous and self-deluding dream on her part thinking the obesity could be treated by having fresh food around her. Food is the enemy masquerading as a friend and one must be very vigilant about using it as a symbol for thinness, as a symbol for moving forward in life coaching terms, as a symbol of turning over a new leaf.
Creating and feeding the obesity. Increasing the obesity problem. Spending money to buy more and more food. Food has become the counsellor, coach, confessor, support and confidante but one who bites back. When is the problem pushed beyond its conventional physical limits and starts manifesting itself in self-perpetuating behaviour, habits and routine. How does a problem of this magnitude start in the first place? Where will it end? What is the catalyst for the start
and for the end? Is the problem being fed by something - is it food and then lies, blindness and delusions. Is the end catastrophic? Death. It's expensive to buy this much food. Where is the money going to come from when work may not be successful?
Practical aspects. How does one get around when one is 200 kilos? Around the house? Doing normal chores like cleaning, cooking (I am not so sure this is a problem as perceived by them but then again they probably do less cooking and eat huge amounts of takeaway say 10 burgers at a time), shopping for food and clothes. Getting to work and just plain walking around? How can you walk around carrying an extra 100 kilos on your back? Most people cannot even bench press
100 kilos but the obese person lives with that nightmare day in day out.
If there is some embarrassment at acknowledging the problem then that embarrassment has to be dealt with and conquered before one can begin to deal with the problem of obesity. If an obese person is house bound and afraid of going out in public then that has to be dealt with. An obese person can be deeply embarrassed with having the problem and this can manifest itself in the inability to work with someone a friend, a counsellor, a coach to deal with the problem.
This flight from reality to obesity has to be faced and talked about with a coach if one is in attendance. If their attitude is "I am better than them" or 'I don't need them' or 'I don't have a problem' or 'I am fine as I am' or 'My partner loves me just as I am' then that is a stumbling block that has to be removed before any forward movement can be made. In fact to beat this stumbling will require a great deal of humility on the part of the obese person in working with
the coach. Why is that? Because a decent coach will present superbly and will be a role model for the obese person and that in itself will be a challenge to the obese person. They have to overcome this challenge and see the coach as a friend and a leader who is on their side in their fight against obesity. Needless to say a coach who is obese cannot work with an obese person to conquer obesity. That is obvious and goes without saying almost.
Develop an influential circle of friends that will provide you with the necessary support that will see you stick at the program over the next three months. If there are people in your life who put you down, who you feel are superior to you, who you feel they think they are superior to you or people who for any reason are not providing you with positive energy, then these people do not belong to that influential circle of friends that will be key to the next three months.
Only have the following people in your influential circle of friends - your life coach is a key resource and his/her importance cannot be under-estimated, your gym instructor, personal trainer and dietician are important within your circle and finally have a supportive partner who will recognise your efforts and the enormous amount this is taking for you to do it. A partner who says to you 'I love you as you are (250 kilos)' is not the right partner for you. A partner who says
and feels the following - I love you and I understand why you're doing this (for health and aesthetic reasons) and I fully support you and I will never let you give up is the right partner for you.
These excerpts have been provided by Mr Gilbert Labour from his forthcoming book - Life Coaching for DODOs a work in progress. Mr Labour will be available on ICQ (671412) between the times of 22:00 and 23:00 AEST on Monday 6th December, Monday 13th December and Monday 20th December to discuss his life coaching approaches to beating obesity. No individual cases will be discussed and the forum will be in general terms. This forum is free to anyone interested.
Life Coaching Tips and Techniques No. 10
Obesity and the roller coaster ride from nadir to zenith and back
There are five journeys in obesity, which one are you on now?
Why are there obese people when there are people starving in the world? Is obesity a medical problem rather than
one of lack of self-control or perhaps even one using food for sexual/sensual gratification for masking (?) the real problems?
How successful is someone who is 250 kilos at 'masking' or hiding the problem?
The five journeys is obesity are -
Getting there becoming obese, this is the easiest journey of all and happens almost without you knowing. This journey is on the road to death.
Staying there at a steady weight, this is a hard journey because the tendency is to put on more weight not less. This journey is a slow death.
The next journey is one into hell and that is on the road to putting on more and more weight. This is the last journey these people even embark on.
This journey ends in death.
The penultimate journey and the one with the most difficulty starting is the road back away from obesity. The enormous journey back is not the problem
but the first step back, the first gram lost. This journey is not a journey of weight loss but a journey to lose the fears and problems that the weight gain had
temporarily put on the back burner. This second last journey is the life coaching journey and has much less to do with weight loss, exercise and fitness and more to do with
facing problems in their real intensity and fury perhaps for the first time since the decision taken to embark on the first journey.
The last journey and that is to keep the weight at the target weight after the massive task of weight loss because again the tendency is to put the weight back on
even faster than before and much much faster than it was lost. For every gram lost a kilo is put on.
Work with a life coach who understands your weight problem is not a weight problem but a personal problem posing, impersonating a weight problem. Someone who knows which
journey you are on and can make sure you either move to the next healthy journey or stay at the healthy journey you're on.

Coaching Programs
555 Program
The 555 Program is complementary to the 333 Program and is part of a family of programs called The Numbered Series, a simplification of a plethora of products, services and programs into
a number of specifically targeted set of programs that target a very specific audience with a limited amount of time and resources to devote to a life and executive coaching program. The programs
covers a set of goals over a set period for a specific (one time only) fee.
The key goals of the 555 Program is to be able to run 5k in 5 months, to solve 5 life coaching issues or problems in 5 months and to investigate and resolve 5 executive coaching problems
in 5 months.
Life Coaching Portal Programs
Beyond the existing Diamond program being run on the portal, a series of additional programs are being developed to be run for specific audiences and which have very clear targets and goals.
These include the following.
The 555 Program
Gilbert Labour, will personally run this program. It will probably take in the region of 10 suitable people and run for 5 months. The program is multi-faceted and covers three main streams a fitness stream, a life coaching stream
dealing with personal issues and an executive stream to supercharge your work, business and corporate environment.
The first stream is a fitness element. The goal is to be able to run 5k (non stop) in five months and be able to lose 5 kilos in the process. This is a modest achievement and is considered a healthy approach to fitness generally.
I am a former fitness instructor and dance teacher and can provide guidance in this area. You will need a clearance from your doctor if you're over 45.
The second stream is a life coaching element. The goal of the life coaching is to investigate a number of current personal issues and focus on 5 for resolution in 5 months. One to be resolved or at least worked on each month.
The third stream is an executive coaching element. The goal of this element is to come up with five goals or issues to be dealt with in the 5 months of the program. These could involve working towards a promotion, changing jobs, changing careers,
leaving the corporate environment and developing a small business. For the hard core executives and other corporate thrivers and survivors there will be a number of areas that include executive interview training and executive decision making that can be covered.
There are many others and these can be chosen based on your current goals. The aim of this stream is canvass all the possibilities and focus on only 5 and work through each one.
The cost of the program varies. To take part on a one-on-one basis with Gilbert Labour will cost $5000. To take part in a group setting will cost $2000. Individual programs can start at anytime considered suitable.
To provide this program on a company wide basis (more than 10 people), please call Gilbert Labour for a quote.
Please call Gilbert Labour on 0409 223 436 if you would like to take part. Further information on the 555 Program is available from the portal.
General Information
I also do a small amount of pro-bono work in the area of life coaching. I belong to the Life Coaching Pro Bono Group (LCPBG), a group of life coaches I am putting together to do this type of work for people in need but who may not be able to afford the services of a full fee life coach. We make allowances for your circumstances and also on the understanding that once you're back on your
feet, your capacity to contribute to your life coaching will also improve.
Generally speaking, we will set clear goals, we will put in place plans to attain those goals, we will execute the plan effectively. We will monitor and survey the results and ensure our goals are met. In most cases, we will envelope what we are trying to achieve into a coaching programme.
I operate flexibly taking into account the needs of the client as we progress with the programme.
Please call me on my mobile (0409 223 436) for a confidential discussion to begin the journey of self discovery.
