Hurdles to changing your life are not a mile high but an inch high
When does one proceed anyway even when there is a risk to the success of the venture, when all the information needed to make a decision one way or other is not yet in, when all the information may never become available no matter how long you wait for it, when no amount of information can help you make a decision one way or the other is that the point where you just go for it? Sink or swim? Do or die? Is there another way to lessen the uncertainty and still do what you feel, what your gut instinct tells you, you want to, you should do.
There is always a moment, a space in time, a time in space where there are unknowns in a course of action being proposed. It is at this moment that most people panic and (and think they are being forced - patently they are not) make the wrong decision. What is this moment of sheer terror, sheer rejection of the change, sheer though of flight at the merest suggestion of the idea? One thought is that this instinct could be right, that is, you are following a survival instinct or other to reject this change or course of action. Another thought could be you lack the force of will, the fortitude to jump that hurdle to make the change.
There is another aspect of this that is still part of the unity of action within the moment discussed above. Within that moment there is still time for reflection and thought before the action proceeds. In fact it can be argued that there should always be thought and reflection before any action takes place. Now back to the moment before action can commence or indeed commences, the ability to use that moment for reflection and thought is not innate but needs to be learnt. It is about learning the ability to control the fear, panic and emotional highs and lows inherent with a push into the unknown.
How does one control sheer terror, fright and panic especially when a previous similar or same course has led to disaster the repercussions of which were dire and which may and probably are still being felt to this day. There is a certain calmness to be found in contemplating this situation and working on strategies to overcome them. There are a number of ways to maximise the time available before the big moment -
Practice, practice and practice. Rehearsal, repetition, trial, dummy runs trialing your strategy and tactics on some dummy data or real live data but not involving your resources.
Think big but start very small. Start small and get smaller before thinking of getting bigger. In a sense getting bigger is out of your hand and beyond your direct control, the market decides this for you.
Keep away from any venture, adventures, proposals, partnerships that offer you an all or nothing strategy. There is no such thing, there is always an alternative that minimises the risks whilst still taking the course or action you desire.
Do not proceed if the big moment is a gamble. Do not gamble with your life, with your relationship, with your homeostasis, with your happiness, with your stability, with your family, with your friends and colleagues. In short do not gamble period. There is no other way.
Prepare yourself physically. Lose the excess weight. Check your BMI and ensure you are within the normal weight for your height. Make sure you are in peak physical condition before embarking on your venture. Always get regular exercise even in the most stressful and busy moments (that is when you need it most). Get plenty of rest and recuperate.
Be aware of the risk of having a breakdown if the going gets too tough and you're too hard on yourself. Mental health is as important as your physical health.
Understand thresholds. These are the base camps on the way to the top. It is a certainty that you will not reach your goal in one single go. There will be setbacks, problems, issues, injuries and obstacles. You will also reach plateaus where you will need to stabilise at before reaching higher. Once the goal is reached the only way is down from there unless you set another goal to take you even higher.
Create a creative engine that churns outs ideas no matter how outrageous or crazy, from these crazy ideas comes better ideas and then better yet until it becomes a good idea. Turn these ideas, inklings, thoughts and desires into possibilities. Turn possibilities into probabilities. Turn probabilities into certainties. Provide resources and planning to execute and implement the certainties. It takes hard work and effort to make the transition from idea to certainty.
List all past major failures. Make a list of all your previous major failures, mistakes, omissions, embarrassing moments and disasters of all kinds - relationships, financial, personal, work related and try and understand the leitmotiv behind each of these, the common thread, the main vein.
Disaster investigation. There is one factor you just need to find that predominates in all your problems and mistakes. You do not have the time or resources to investigate, gather data, analyse, draw conclusions and decide on actions for too many factors here. Concentrate on the one factor that is the most at play everywhere you have participated in a disaster.
Seek help, advice and support. Get someone to help you in your disaster investigation, you may need some objectivity to tease out the right and find the top reasons for your failures. You yourself are too close to the action and involved to provide much depth of understanding and objectivity.
Find the one. When you have come up with a list of the reasons for your previous failures, find the one that is most responsible for your failure. Your focus here is on just that one, don't worry about the others. This is the one that will give you the most bang for your buck.
Concentrate on the one. Try to go back to the time when you first encountered this particular factor and try and understand how this works inside you. For example the factor could be that you have a propensity to take great risks with a particular course for a venture even thought there is an alternative to you to achieve the same venture at less risk. You must understand and get to the bottom of this risk taking behaviour. There is a reason for it and you need to find it.
Now once you have understand the one, is this factor at work in your current venture? How big a part does it play? How can you obviate the effects of this factor? How can you negate or neutralise its effects? Does it play a part no matter what you do? There must be some way some strategy to obviate this effect? It could be that there is nothing you can do about it but never turn your back on it or ignore it, you most probably in the past ignored it and failed miserably, this is not a journey you would willingly embark upon again.
If there is nothing you personally can do about it, then seek the advice of a friend or other supported but be careful a friend may have their own prejudices and their own ends to achieve and part of that could be connected with your venture (whether it fails or not). A life coach is someone who is totally apart from you in that connection and should be able to provide the necessary distance.
Choose a life coach who has been on the journey you are about to embark on, preferably with a successful conclusion but at least strong lessons learnt from their failure. Chose a life coach who is intellectually brilliant, with exceptional people skills, overwhelming generosity of spirit and the time and patience to help you overcome this hurdle. These people are extremely rare in the world.
The great life coaches. What you are doing is having someone with the learning and mind of a CEO into your life and helping you resolve issues/problems. This problem is not about making up a todo list and getting on with it those life coaches who propose this course of action with the problem above are not life coaches but project planners or simply planners. You do not need a planner in your life but someone who can help you help yourself not in resolving specific problems but in providing you with the techniques and database of tools for you to solve your own problems in your time at your own pace as and when you require it.
There is no magic or mystery in developing a set of tools and approaches to solving your problems. I think this is one area where you need help because to be able to provide a consistent and repeatable process for resolving your own problems requires working with a professional coach who has at their disposal the techniques required to imbue you with the tools necessary. The key learning is that even though you cannot self-treat all your personal problems there are some things you can do for yourself that at least provide you with the insights you need that you can then engage a professional life coach to help you with. Without these insights you are essentially travelling blind and it will take an awful lot of time (and money) working with a life coach to get to the bottom of the problem.
It is unavoidable that you will makes mistakes, on your own almost a certainty, and a high probability even with the world's greatest life coach by your side. With a life coach by your side you will nonetheless make mistakes but there will be support and understanding to help you learn from these mistakes fast and get moving with your course in life even faster. Without a coach that learning may not take place at all or if it does it will take much longer and you will be blocked/stopped for much longer.
A life fully spent in the service of others is a life fully lived with something valuable left behind when you're gone your spirit, your generosity, your love and caring. This is your aim not just for a life coach.
The bottom line is to help yourself up to a point when you should then seek the advice of a professional life coach.

Obesity and the roller coaster ride from nadir to zenith and back
There are five journeys in obesity, which one are you on now?
Why are there obese people when there are people starving in the world? Is obesity a medical problem rather than
one of lack of self-control or perhaps even one using food for sexual/sensual gratification for masking (?) the real problems?
How successful is someone who is 250 kilos at 'masking' or hiding the problem?
The five journeys is obesity are -
Getting there becoming obese, this is the easiest journey of all and happens almost without you knowing. This journey is on the road to death.
Staying there at a steady weight, this is a hard journey because the tendency is to put on more weight not less. This journey is a slow death.
The next journey is one into hell and that is on the road to putting on more and more weight. This is the last journey these people even embark on.
This journey ends in death.
The penultimate journey and the one with the most difficulty starting is the road back away from obesity. The enormous journey back is not the problem
but the first step back, the first gram lost. This journey is not a journey of weight loss but a journey to lose the fears and problems that the weight gain had
temporarily put on the back burner. This second last journey is the life coaching journey and has much less to do with weight loss, exercise and fitness and more to do with
facing problems in their real intensity and fury perhaps for the first time since the decision taken to embark on the first journey.
The last journey and that is to keep the weight at the target weight after the massive task of weight loss because again the tendency is to put the weight back on
even faster than before and much much faster than it was lost. For every gram lost a kilo is put on.

Coaching Programs
555 Program
The 555 Program is complementary to the 333 Program and is part of a family of programs called The Numbered Series, a simplification of a plethora of products, services and programs into
a number of specifically targeted set of programs that target a very specific audience with a limited amount of time and resources to devote to a life and executive coaching program. The programs
covers a set of goals over a set period for a specific (one time only) fee.
The key goals of the 555 Program is to be able to run 5k in 5 months, to solve 5 life coaching issues or problems in 5 months and to investigate and resolve 5 executive coaching problems
in 5 months.
Life Coaching Portal Programs
Beyond the existing Diamond program being run on the portal, a series of additional programs are being developed to be run for specific audiences and which have very clear targets and goals.

The 555 Program
Gilbert Labour, will personally run this program. It will probably take in the region of 10 suitable people and run for 5 months. The program is multi-faceted and covers three main streams a fitness stream, a life coaching stream
dealing with personal issues and an executive stream to supercharge your work, business and corporate environment.
The first stream is a fitness element. The goal is to be able to run 5k (non stop) in five months and be able to lose 5 kilos in the process. This is a modest achievement and is considered a healthy approach to fitness generally.
I am a former fitness instructor and dance teacher and can provide guidance in this area. You will need a clearance from your doctor if you're over 45.
The second stream is a life coaching element. The goal of the life coaching is to investigate a number of current personal issues and focus on 5 for resolution in 5 months. One to be resolved or at least worked on each month.
The third stream is an executive coaching element. The goal of this element is to come up with five goals or issues to be dealt with in the 5 months of the program. These could involve working towards a promotion, changing jobs, changing careers,
leaving the corporate environment and developing a small business. For the hard core executives and other corporate thrivers and survivors there will be a number of areas that include executive interview training and executive decision making that can be covered.
There are many others and these can be chosen based on your current goals. The aim of this stream is canvass all the possibilities and focus on only 5 and work through each one.

I also do a small amount of pro-bono work in the area of life coaching. I belong to the Life Coaching Pro Bono Group (LCPBG), a group of life coaches I am putting together to do this type of work for people in need but who may not be able to afford the services of a full fee life coach. feet, your capacity to contribute to your life coaching will also improve.
