Reputed to be better optically with mention of improvements at 28mm where I think the old one had light falloff problems at max aperture. No comparison tests done as yet | Said to be better again than the 371D model with even better performance

Currently there is no indication as to whether the new XR model will replace the model 371D pictured above or will just be a lightweight version sold alongside. Later there has also been Di version which is stated as being optimised for digital cameras. There must be maybe 4 versions of this lens of various vintages available in shops , so it's a matter of buyer beware.
